Hands harvesting fresh herbs in a sunlit field

Our Sourcing Philosophy

We Know Where Every Product Comes From.

Specialty Foods Holding Company was built on a single conviction: the best food has a story, and that story starts long before it reaches the shelf.

Not a Distributor. A Curator.

Most food companies work backwards — they find what's available and sell it. We work forwards. We start with the growers, the fishers, and the herbalists who meet our standards, then we build our portfolio around what they produce.

The result is a catalog that's deliberately narrow and exceptionally deep. Every product we carry has been sourced, tasted, and vetted by our team. If we wouldn't serve it at our own table, it doesn't make the cut.

What We Look For

Every supplier in our network is evaluated against the same four criteria — no exceptions, no shortcuts.

01

Provenance

We require full traceability from source to shelf. Every product in our portfolio can be traced to a named farm, fishing ground, or growing region. We visit our suppliers in person before we commit to a relationship.

02

Responsible Practice

We work exclusively with producers who use sustainable, low-impact methods — whether that means regenerative agriculture, line-caught fishing, or wild-harvesting protocols that protect native plant populations.

03

Sensory Quality

Every product is tasted blind by our sourcing team before it enters the portfolio. We're looking for products that are genuinely exceptional — not just compliant with a certification checklist.

04

Supply Integrity

We only work with producers who can supply consistently and honestly. If a harvest is short, we'd rather go out of stock than substitute with an inferior product. Our retail partners can trust that what they order is exactly what they receive.

From Source to Shelf

Three Categories, One Standard

Sustainable fishing at sea

From the Sea

Our fish and shellfish come from small-scale, independent fishers operating in well-managed fisheries across the Pacific and Atlantic. We prioritize day-boat and line-caught methods, and we work only with fishers who can document their catch practices.

Sustainable farm and organic produce

From the Land

Our produce and botanical suppliers are small farms and family operations who grow with intention. Many hold organic certification; all meet our own sourcing standards, which in several cases are more stringent than what certification requires.

Carry Products You Can Stand Behind.

If you run a specialty grocery store or independent natural food retailer, we'd love to talk. Our wholesale program is built for retailers who care as much about provenance as we do.
